Reporting to: Innovation Specialist (Strategy & Partnerships), UNICEF Supply Division, Copenhagen, MSFIC (Markets, Supplier Financing and Innovations Centre).
In 2016, UNICEF procured $3.519 billion in supplies and services for children in 147 countries and areas. Partnerships, competition, and strategic procurement delivered price reductions for vaccines and other supplies that saved $588.2 million for governments and donors. Much of UNICEF Supply Division’s (SD) work focuses on working with suppliers and a range of partners to ensure the availability of life-saving products. SD’s work in product innovation and markets effort enables the development of new products or the improvement of existing ones and interventions to decrease prices and ensure availability hereby ensuring value for money and the availability of fit for purpose and value for money products that can benefit children around the world.
The unit requires a consultant with a proven flair for communicating complex messages and an excellent understanding of product innovation and markets, to structure and realize the communication activities for SD Innovation and the Products and Markets Strategy. An enhanced understanding of innovation processes, market interventions and innovative technologies is preferred as well as an understanding of global health issues. In addition, understanding of UNICEF’s unique context is of significant advantage.
The consultant will manage and structure the communication activities of the Markets, Supplier Financing and Innovation Centre (MSFIC) to internal and external audiences. All work will be done in close collaboration with SD’s Strategy, Change and Communication Centre, different UNICEF divisions and offices as well as externals.
The purpose of this full-time consultancy is to structure and manage the communication activities of the Products and Markets Strategy owned by the Markets, Supplier Financing and Innovation Centre with specific focus on Product Innovation.
Main Duties/ Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the Innovation Specialist (Strategy & Partnerships), the Communication Consultant’s duties and responsibilities will be to plan and manage communication projects and activities, including a substantial amount of writing, editing and lay-out work to share strategy, knowledge, lessons learned and best practices associated with SD’s work accelerating product innovation to both internal and external audiences. The consultant will work as part of a team in order to complete communication activities.
1) Communication Strategy
a) Create a communication strategy for communicating the Products and Markets effort and strategy.
b) Structure and carry out 2018 communication activities.
c) Research and recommend key strategic events to attend.
2) Web communications
a) Internal web communication
i. Create and share content on Supply Intranet.
ii. Create and share monthly content on ICON intranet in collaboration with Division of Communication.
iii. Create quarterly reports on internal web usage.
b) External web communication
i. Transition of web content from Red-dot to the new web-platform Drupal.
ii. Create harmonized web content for each product innovation project.
iii. Created harmonized one-pagers for each product innovation project.
iv. Create monthly blog posts and news for the unicefstories.org website.
v. Create quarterly reports on external web usage.
vi. Create an online representation of Pipeline of projects.
3) Non-web based communication
a) Create a high quality standard presentation to communicate Products and Markets strategy, project and achievements for individual events.
i) Create updates of the standard presentation
b) In collaboration with SD’s Strategy, Change and Communication Centre create communication pieces and articles to IU achievements and Products and Markets strategy.
c) Create data visualizations of complex data which can be easily interpreted by external audiences
a) Create bi-annual report on SD’s IU activities to UNICEF’s senior management (OED).
b) Create bi-annual report on SD’s IU activities to SD’s senior management (AGM).
5) Donor Relations
a) Structure and manage communications to donors.
b) Prepare communication materials for donors of IU’s initiatives.
The successful candidate shall have:
• Minimum 5 years professional and relevant work experience in communication
• Master Degree in Project Management/Innovation/Communication/Marketing or another relevant discipline
• Proven high-level ability to communicate both through words and graphics
• Experience of content management systems, ideally Drupal
• Experience in data visualization
• Working knowledge of UNICEF and the UN is preferable
• Knowledge of product innovation and innovation ecosystems is preferable
The successful candidate is expected to demonstrate the following competencies that are considered to be necessary to this consultancy:

• High level of experience in Adobe desktop publishing software (Photoshop, Illustrator etc.)
• High level of experience web CMS systems (Drupal, WordPress, Red dot etc.)
• Knowledge of standard MS Office applications (MS Access, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Fluency in written and spoken English is essential and in another UN language is an advantage.
