I’m so excited to be here! Today is my first day with the innovation team in UNICEF HQ. The UNICEF building is just off the UN secretariat and let me tell you, its impressive, I feel proud to be part of this organization and the work we do for children.

From the lifts, I am led to the innovation unit. It’s awfully quiet in here as everyone in the office is busy typing away on his or her MAC computers. I’m here for a couple of months on a consultancy from the Sudan office. I meet Christopher Fabian co-founder of the innovation unit. He is energetic; I think we’ll get on well. I will be getting support from Chris, and his dynamic team to develop; a concept note, project work plan and budget. This concept note and work plan will enable UNICEF Sudan and their government and civil society partners map out a strategy and running cost in establishing innovation labs in two Sudanese university campuses. The universities will be developing innovative solutions to local challenges in education, birth registrations and emergency response using RapidSMS and open source monitoring tools. By establishing clear and concise goals at the start of the project cycle, Sudan is hoping to put itself on the innovation map.

I will get back to you tomorrow guys, thanks for reading…
